Editing: starting to edit

Yesterday was the first day we started to edit. After filming we automatically started the editing process. As soon as we got done filming 2 classes ago we dumped all of our footage on one of our class computers. Our teacher told us to dump the footage on one of our group mates accounts so that we could all reach it and that it should be on the desktop available on their account. The next class we  got to class and sat at a different computer, and logged into the account we dumped on. We then found out that our footage wasn’t on the desktop of the computer and that we had to go back to the original computer we dumped on, and share the files. I got nervous because I thought that we lost our footage or that we dumped the footage wrong. We had 2 options when sharing the footage, we could either put it on a thumb drive or upload it to google drive. We thought it would be best to upload it to google drive so that we could all view and have the footage. Also putting it on google drive we can share it with all the group mates to their Gmail accounts so that we can all have access when we would like.
When viewing our footage we decided which ones we should not put into the commercial first. This was the best way for us to start so that we could just start clean with all the footage we are going to use. When first watching our footage we found out that we didn’t like most of the scenes, so we went out and recorded them again. We re-recorded most of the main scenes: the skateboarding scenes, bleacher scenes, talking scenes etc. We also switched last min who would do what part because certain scenes didn’t fit along the “storyline” as well. So I switched with one of my group mates on the bleacher scene while she recorded. We then went back to class, viewed the scenes and we decided we liked them better than the other clips we took. We then thought of ideas of what we could edit into our intro and outro. We also discussed what type of music would go into it. My group was thinking like alternative music like indie music to put into it.
We had a problem because all the computers in our classroom didn’t work. pinnacle studios the app we use for editing wasn’t available on the computers. Our teacher told us that we are getting either laptops or new computers very soon. That way it’ll be easier to edit with no problems. Another issue is that we cannot get pinnacle studios anywhere else other than at school, so even if we wanted to get a head start and learn some of the controls we can’t because it’s not available. So next class we are going to edit so then we have to automatically try to get all of our major editing done so that we can turn everything on time as our teacher directed. One of our teammates was out as well so, it’s harder to make decisions on what we want to keep in or what we want to leave out without her. But next class I’m so excited to start editing on pinnacle studios. I’m so excited for how our commercial will turn out. thanks for reading !!!

Filming: first day

Today was the first day we filmed for our commercial. I had multiple roles and parts I had to play today. I was recording my groupmate haylie while she was on the penny board prop and I followed her while she was moving. I was also recording some of the pan shots and many of the shots that were taken under the bleachers. My group mates and I frequently switched filming. we all wanted to be in the commercial so we would switch off and pass the camera to each other so that we could all be in it. There is one shot where we are sitting on the bleachers all together, but for that particular shot we had to use a tripod. I believe that we followed the storyboard pretty well, but we had new invisions along the way. For example, like what angles to film at and how we should film it but that's all the changes we did. We did most of our filming today, but friday we might want to add a little more scenes to the intro and outro of our commercial.
My group and I went to about 4 locations today to film. We used the sidewalk that is near building 21 and chiefs classroom for the first scene. the first scene is where you see the vans shoe kick up the penny board and where we ride the penny board down the pathway. The first scene is very important to me because this is where you show off the shoe for the very first time. I also believe that using a "skateboard" or "penny board" helps with the image of vans and what they stand for. The second location we used is the bus loop in front of some of the trees that are in that area. I stood in front of the trees looking down while my group mates did a pan vertically starting from my shoes up. This shot helps highlight the shoes once again. The greenery in the background also helps highlight the somewhat white shoes. I thought that looking down would also help the shoes standout much more.
The third location that we went to was the track, here we did a pan of the bleachers with a groupmate sitting on it. The fourth location that we went to was under the bleachers, here was where most of the filming was. One of the groupmates was sitting under the bleachers while another was sitting on top with some of the shoe peeking out so that the camera could view it while recording. When I filmed this scene it was more difficult than the others because it was much harder to view the shoe on camera, than it was to see in person. I took many shots for this scene just to be sure that we hopefully got the right one. Most of today's filming was about an hour and fifteen minutes. After filming we went straight back to class to dump whatever was on our SD card. We also created a folder and put the footage on there. I also returned the tripod, camera and hall pass. I think that today was overall a pretty successful day and that I got a lot accomplished.

Storyboard: commercial

Today, in class, we started brainstorming on ideas for our commercial. We infused some of the ideas we had seen in other Vans commercials to create our own creative ideas. We took into consideration the audience of our product such as teens and young adults. We thought about some cool, but also effective, shots we would like to input into our commercial. These included tracking shots, close-ups, and wide shots. We also wanted to make sure the focus was consistent on the Vans products. While thinking about different shots and how they were perceived, we started to figure out our storyline. We thought that it would be relatable to our audience and persuasive if we showed how Vans brought others together. We want the advertisement to seem simplistic but also have small details that contribute to the power of the scene. The setting and props will also play a big part of how  the audience sees the Vans products.
Since Vans products are usually veered towards the skating atmosphere, we thought a good prop to use would be a skateboard. The skateboard could also act as a transition between scenes. We thought that using warm, natural lighting would be very realistic and effective. This would help convey the message of being together in an outdoor setting. In our setting, the colors are very neutral with pops of color coming from the Vans clothing. This includes the different colors that Vans’ shoes come in in order to promote individuality. The setting of the bleachers makes the commercial very relatable and realistic to teenagers because it is a familiar place to a variety of areas.
Our storyboard’s first scene is a medium close up and of someone about to ride a skateboard. The second scene is an extreme close up of the person riding the skateboard, but the eye level of the feet. It is going to be done as a pan shot. The third “scene” is going to start with a wide shot of 2 people away from each other sitting on the bleachers. There is going to be an over the shoulder shot of one person realizing both of the people are wearing Vans apparel. In the fourth, it is of a different person looking empowered bully wearing vans. This will be a long shot/ a tracking shot moving upward. The last shot will be a 3 shot of all the people on the bleachers talking and being together. The camera will zoom out and blur as words come across the screen along with the Vans logo.

Editing: lesson blog

Today we learned how to edit and how to use the cameras. We learned how to use the camera, the controls, and what accessories go with it. we learned how to use pinnacle which is the editing app we will use to edit our commercials and more. Before recording, you want to make sure that you have placed a SD card into the camera. To open the SD slot you push down lightly and it should just pop up. To turn on the camera you either open the screen or you find the on/off button. After that you just point your camera to whatever you want to film and press the button with a red line in it. To stop recording you will press the red button again. Make sure you take your SD card out when you are done filming, to prevent another person to record on ur card. It is recommended to take as many takes as you can because when the editing process begins you want to make sure you have enough takes so that if you don’t like a certain one you could use another take you took.
When you are done recording the editing process begins.  Log into your computer and right click on the desktop to create a folder. The folder is where you will store most of your footage, this is important when you start editing in pinnacle. Whoever’s account you logged into the first time is the account you will log in each time you will edit so you can access the folder. now you will start the dumping process. everything from your SD card with be dumped into your folder. DCIM is where you will go to find all of your footage with dates and times already on it. You have to make sure that the dates and times on the camera match the dates and times on the DCIM so that the footage dates don’t get messed up. You will use the folder to import footage into pinnacle. This is how you will add footage to pinnacle so that you can edit it however you would like it to be.
Now to edit into pinnacle you will have to press on the tracks. The tracks are what “clips” or “runs” of your footage that is edited all together. To edit a particular clip you have to drag your footage bar to, track 2. Track 1 is for titles, track 3 is for sound. In track three this is where voiceovers take place and where you can place sound on top of your own audio. Track 3 is most important because in this track you can also edit your footage to make it shorter etc. In track 3 if you right click You can detach the audio from your clip, or mute it altogether. razor blade icon stops and starts your clip so that you can review your editing. The bold and all capitalized T is where you go to add a title. You simply click on the T write what you would like and choose your font, size, and color.

Planning: For Vans Commercial

We are figuring out where we are filming our commercial, what props we will need, our backup plan, and the basic idea for it. We are doing a vans commercial, so it has to capture what the brand vans usually portrays.. For this blog, we need to explain our plan for our commercial in detail and make sure we know what are doing so we can start story-boarding next class. We need to talk about the props that we are going to use, the costumes we are going to wear, the location, and what we will do if we cannot use our original plan, and make a schedule for our commercial.

~The props that we will be using in our vans commercial are vans shoes and other Vans apparel. Also, we might use skateboards, but we are still unsure of that because we are filming at school.
~Our costumes would be ripped jeans, t-shirts, Vans shoes, beanies, and cool shin high socks.
~The location of our commercial is going to be on the senior patio and around that area of our school. If it rains or we cannot go to that location, we will go to the stairs near the auditorium.

Schedule:
10/15: Editing assignment and story boarding
10/17: Start filming process
10/22: Filming Blog
10/24: Filming and editing blog
10/28: Edit and see if anything needs to be re-filmed
10/30: Re-film shots if needed and continue editing
11/1: Editing
11/5: Review final product

Research blog: Commercial Conventions

My group and I are doing our commercial for the brand Vans. Vans' commercials use a variety of music, it can range from instrumental rock to a rhythmic strum on the guitar. The surroundings are normally neutral colored with the shoes capturing the eye by adding a pop of color or striking print. Their advertisements usually depict that their apparel can improve skating performance. The dialogue, if there is any, is done in a voice over which empowers and adds emphasis on the topic of individuality and expression.
The props normally used in a commercial for Vans include skateboards and surfboards. They use these props to relate their brand with a feeling of freedom and adventure. They use their brand's clothing in their commercials which are normally a basic color with a cool design. The people seen in the advertisements are usually wearing beanies, flannels, and/or ripped jeans.
The setting where these commercials take place can range from the beach to a skate park or anywhere else where it will appeal to their audience. The setting is usually never overwhelming or overcrowded. The shot usually contains a lot of negative space for example, a long beach or a clear sky with focus on the subject. Their ads use neutral colors with hints of warm tones. The settings are usually in outdoor settings which allows natural lighting to play a major role in how their brand is portrayed. Their ads create a calming mood for the audience.

Introduction of KG

Hello, I'm Kelly I'm half-Venezuelan and half white. Most of my friends describe me as funny, compassionate, ambitious and affectionate. On my free time I like to do many things, but I always like spending time with my friends and family no matter what. I live in an area that is very close to the beach, so usually on my free time i'm at the beach either swimming, tanning, jet skiing, paddleboarding, or just hanging with my friends. The only time I won't be at the beach is when there's the jellyfish called Man-o-war there. Another thing I like to do on my free time is go to Orlando to visit my sister and go to the parks. My sister is a very huge part in my life, me and her are extremely close even though she lives 190 miles away from me.
I also like to bring my dogs to the dog park on my free time. My dogs are like my family as well, I have 4 Maltese that I've had since I was four. My favorite food is potatoes; I love anything that has potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, french fries, etc.
I'm really hardworking and when I set my mind to something I don't stop. In the future I see myself doing something in physical therapy, design and fashion, or/and in dermatology. I do not like nursing or the doctors in general because I have a phobia of needles.
I don't play sports on a team but I do enjoy playing basketball, football, and i'm starting to learn tennis. At my school FLHS I take aice english language, aice media studies, and aice marine. I'm in the Cambridge program so that I can receive my aice diploma, which is the reason i'm taking "aice" classes. I would like to go to UCF in state because I don't want to be too far from home, but I want to be just far enough. Receiving the cambridge diploma would help me achieve my goal of going to ucf. I've met many new friends in the past year and i'm doing well in my classes.
welcome to my blog!!
