Editing: music video

After filming this weekend, we had collected all of the footage that we needed to actually create our music video. My groupmate savanna is very talented when it comes to editing. So she can edit very fast and very well at the same time. While filming we made sure that we recorded enough footage so that we wouldn’t be short in any parts. Our main issue was that we wanted to record more than enough just because we all had doubts on weather it would be long enough. We also wanted to fit our schedule. We planned to film this weekend which is what we did. We also planned to have about 3 days to edit because our music video is due this week sometime thursday-Friday. So our timing was completely perfect.
Editing our commercial was mostly done by our partner savanna. Haylie (who’s phone we used to film) sent all the footage to savanna right after filming, so that everything was already accessible. We used many programs to edit such as iMovie, our regular editor and more. But the most useful and convenient  program to edit on is iMovie. We decided earlier on what parts we would for sure use in our music videos and which ones we wouldn’t. I believe that we used the effect “zoom in” one of the most used for our music video. This was the effect we used when we zoomed into the name so that no scrubs could easily be seen. Another affect we used the most was the music choice. This was the option to place music over our clips. This was the most used because we were editing a music video, so obviously we need music!
Some of the final things we did while editing were, adding final affects, cutting certain scenes, and adding particular scenes as well. While editing we had to always re-watch our music video so that we would see how everything would flow. It was easiest to just add or subtract a certain clip while watching it over. Editing is one of the most satisfying things to do because that’s when you see everything come together. When you’re filming you’re not sure how everything’s going to come out. But when you’re editing you clearly see everything coming together. One of the issues we came across was our commercial would end in a weird spot. My group mate Savanna kept editing trying to stop the commercial in a better spot. But every time we would edit it would keep ending in a weird scene. But then after a few tries we figured out how to end our music video in the perfect spot.

Filming: creating the music video

Over Thanksgiving Break my groupmates and I all met up on Sunday to film. We decided to meet up around noon. Meeting at this time helped us use all of our time efficiently. It also helped us conserve most of the sunlight before the sun went down. The first thing we decided to film was the scenes in the car, it was most convenient to film it first so that we could just get it out of the way. After filming most of the car scenes we all went to galleria mall to film in our second location. We had walked around the mall for a little bit to find the perfect place to film. We decided to film in a little spot where all 3 of us could fit comfortably into the shot. After filming at galleria mall, we went to ft. Lauderdale beach. This was our 3rd and final location for filming.

Before meeting with all my group mates, we decided in class that we would use one of our group mates haylies iPhone to film. We thought that using her phone was the best choice because it has a new feature called wide shot which would help us record most pans much better. Also the resolution of the camera is much better than the cameras we could check out at school. At all of our locations there were spots that we could easily  place the phone on. Using the Phone makes it much more easy to carry our “equipment”. Another reason it’s very good to use the phone is that it makes sending the videos/clips easier to transport among each of us. we all would take turns recording because only three of us went ( which is all of my groupmates). This made it challenging for some scenes because when all of us wanted to be in a shot we would have to place the phone almost on the tripod and set the timer for when we would be walking. but other than the three person scenes The filming process went very smoothly. we would all rotate to film so that we would all be in the music video.

When I first got with my groupmates we immediately started filming in the car. Savanna was the first want to film my other group me Haylie get into the car. I helped record One of the first scenes which was when Savanna and Haylie looked at each other greeting one another. Haylie and Savanna both helped film when there was a scene of me getting into the car. When we got to the mall,  there were a few scenes which were all three of us because we had a dance. Savanna came up with the choreography for our dance. We all thought that the dance would fit very good into using our song because it’s upbeat and makes you want to dance. So mostly all of the scenes at the mall consist of all of us. The last location which is the beach has clips of all of us individually. We thought that having individual scenes would be good as well because it gives each of us a moment to shine and to do our dance.
